Whistle-Blowers - Thoughtful
Tuesday, 06 October 2009 08:28

In 2002, at the Int Base, friends from OSA told me that OSA hired private investigators who in turn employ hackers to intercept email traffic of people they were investigating. In this way they always know the plans of their enemies. Their private investigators also use bribery to gain access to telephone records and bank records in almost real time. Use a credit card somewhere, and if the Church is tracking you, they know where you are. Call someone, and the Church knows who you called. ComputerWorld published a great article on how to protect your identity online. Here's the link to the article.

Best Solution

Hands down the best solution is to handle or disconnect from any suppressive person or group. It IS the right choice. You can't go up the Bridge while being PTS! You can't go OT while taking no responsibility for the future of Scientology since "OT" and responsibility go hand in hand. To maintain a connection to an SP group is to court disaster, disease, accidents, worry, etc. Just ask Isaac Hayes, Joe Harrison, or any of the many Scientologists who are now dead.

As Marty Rathbun put it, "We should stop being so confounded worried about being expelled from immoral, rapidly declining communities and start getting busy building ones in which we can be happy and of which we can be proud.

"Several mechanisms are wielded by Miscavology to keep the sheep in the pen and to keep the more adventurous ones in fear of straying too far. The most common weapon is the disconnect card. It is used to keep people in a state of terror of losing their family, friends and livelihoods. Many on-line, or at least in good standing, public and former staff have reached out for advice on how to keep pursuing the truth without losing one or more of what they consider integral parts of their communities."

Your Bridge to OT

If you want to continue with formal auditing, there are some fine independent auditors whose dance cards are not full. And it's incredibly exciting to move up The Bridge in a distraction-free, safe environment such as your own home. Much of the technology is available on Wikileaks (listed under "Scientology"). Basically, it's 1950 all over again. There are no real orgs. But now we have the tech.

I can understand if you "don't want to leave your church" -- but it's not "your church" anymore (identities aren't identical). It's David Miscavige's extortion racket and money laundering scheme. The Scientology you know and love now exists outside the so called "Church."

Protecting Your Income

Labor laws protect a person from being discriminated against in the work place. Contact a lawyer. If your Scientologist boss would fire you if you left Miscavige's "Church," tell him you'll sue and take his whole damn company. Grow some teeth! Fight back and stop selling out our own soul. Your integrity is more valuable than anything else.

By report, there is now an Ethics Org set up in CLO WUS that wears black uniforms (Miscavige's favorite). They are basically the enforcement arm for IAS regges to squeeze money out of people.

What's better: A) Being declared by a rogue organization that has splintered off all of Scientology? Or B) continuing to pay tribute so they won't declare you? (Clue: B = propitiation).

Disconnection from "Friends" and Family

You're on the Titanic. You're either going DOWN with the ship, or you are going to save yourself now. What about your friends? Well, they're on the same ship. Do they not want to live? If not, guess what -- they aren't your friends! When the ship is going down, the last thing you need is an anchor around your neck. Some people just want to be anchors. That's their problem. You can't help them if you don't live.

I walked away from a wife I loved and a 16-year marriage, all my friends, my career, everything, and at 46 started over with NOTHING. Dozens of others did the same thing. Look at us now. We're at Cause! I know several others who stayed and now have CANCER. Many others have died, too blind to pull the vampire bats off their neck.

Mike Rinder faced the same decision. He was faced with disconnection. Monique Yingling (non-Scientologist lawyer who does David Miscavige's dirty work for between $500,000 to $1,000,000 a year income) made it known that she was ready to offer Mike several million dollars AND the comm lines to his wife, mother and brother if he would "stay quiet." He turned them down. Because Mike Rinder has PERSONAL INTEGRITY. Do you?

Protecting your identity online

Every computer including yours has an identity online called an IP Address. It is a combination of numbers like "123.45.67.89." When you send an email, your IP Address is sent along. If you sign up for a gmail account, your IP Address of the computer where you signed up is also recorded. So, if you want to create a gmail account, do it from a public computer, not your own. After that, never use that particular email address for any traffic that can identify who you are. In other words, don't write to a friend and sign it with your name.

Computer software like Anonymizer can enable you to surf the net anonymously. Furthermore, it enables you to send and receive emails with security. Cost is about $30 a year.

Hushmail will encrypt your email traffic to prevent people from being able to read it. They have free memberships if your volume of traffic is going to be very low. For more frequent use, just get a membership for $30.

There are other programs available. A quick Google on these subjects will teach you more.

"Ambush" Metered Interrogations

If for whatever reasons you decide to risk life and limb to stay in bed with our subverted Church, I’m going to brief you on some things so you are prepared for anything. There’s actually little danger of this happening to you, but I am briefing you just the same. To paraphrase LRH’s rule in the Welcome to the Sea Org tapes, if you are are drilled and thus prepared for any crisis or disaster, what would otherwise have turned into a catastrophe is never anything worse than a simple emergency. So don't freak out, there’s no need to. I’d rather give a thorough briefing and have you be prepared, than not mention things and take even a small chance. So the following points are overkill, realize.

Miscavige, in desperation, has started sending out teams to ambush people. They have sent people out even to homes and businesses and try to get people on the meter or set up a time for you to come in. Regardless of what they say, it's an interrogation. So don't buy their phony "PR." My advice is simply to politely or impolitely refuse to participate. Ask them what policy they are operating on and simply hold your ground. If anyone touches you, they can be charged with assault.

There is no hidden data line that makes any kind of ambush sec check on Scientology public or "group sec check" for that matter okay. These are just the suppressive tools of a squirrel (Miscavige). He's been doing these things at the Int Base for years.

I presume you have the confront to be able to hold your ground against a criminal, off-policy effort like that. You don't need to answer questions. They have zero right to ask! This is the United States of America. They are not a private police organization although they act like it. They have no warrant. They have zero ethics presence, because what they are doing is utter out-ethics nonsense. You should get a reality on that. If this is a worry for you, I can tell you more to bolster your confidence.

For example, LRH says to attack, never defend. And in this case, if you get cornered and some nitwit is ordering you to pick up the cans, simply attack! Be antagonistic, not critical. Or, perhaps you can do it all politely. But if politeness fails, get antago. Antagonism = BPC. Natter (critical) = Missed withholds. Ref: C/S Series 1.

That's all you need to do. Do not pick up the cans. Just look them in the eye and demand to see the policy they are operating on, and tell them they are squirrels and LRH would never have put up with this. You're a voluntary parishioner of a church, not an inmate in a prison camp or a gulag! Indicate to them their correct condition is Enemy -- they don't know who they really are.

If you are fierce enough, outraged enough, they will start apologizing and run for the hills. So don't natter, blast away on true charges of out-tech, labor laws, human rights, civil rights, etc. You can even drill handling this if you want with friends or family.

Exporting Suppression from the Int Base

In Mexico, SO Members entered a business and started to put staff on the meter. Such violates labor laws. The owner of the company put up such a fight (writing KRs) that the Miscavige had the CLO send official letters of apology. So hold your ground and make them back off if this happens to you.

Again, I'm not trying to alarm you, just get your confront up, prepared for anything as in, "constant alertness, willingness to fight back is the price of freedom."

If you want any ideas on how you can help without getting declared, and this is how not to be declared.

At Int, staff were put on the meter frequently. Surprise meter checks, ethics interviews, sometimes they were daily. This is a misuse of the E-Meter (it's not a lie detector) so you can get around this if worse comes to worse. But the best idea is not to Q&A with squirrel Gestapo wannabes in the first place if they show up.

Realize any such action is a squirrel last resort of someone who is moving down the CDEI scale: curious, desire, enforce, inhibit. Miscavige is trying to inhibit people from leaving his control.

"Don't Believe the Hype" -- Issac Hayes

One last thing, interrogators can be very persuasive. They will say anything to get you on the cans. "Oh, we just want to talk to you about your Bridge progress!" Don’t go there! Get outraged and make them back off. Tell them Tone 40, BACK OFF! Regarding the persuasion, they will say “Oh, this is just an interview to get you moving on your Basics” (lies). As soon as you pick up the cans, they will attack, “So, have you read anything negative on the Internet? Who are you in comm with? Was it email or phone? Did he contact you or did you contact him? Tell us the truth. Come on, what are you withholding? Look, we're not stupid. Just be straight with us and we'll be straight with you. Have you spoken to _______(name)? It’s okay, we just want to help...” you get the idea.

I know, I flew out to meet with arrogant Tommy Davis in February 2008 and was promptly interrogated by 3 people at once in the OSA conference room at the HGB (off the meter). They said the above plus stuff like, “Hey, you just went BIs. What are you withholding? We can tell when you’re not being straight with us. Just be straight with us and we’ll be straight with you. Really. So who contacted you? Was it _______(name)? What about _______(name)?” Or murder routine (sec checking ploy): “What did you do, talk to the press?”

Reality Check

No one can read your mind. Not even the meter shows what the meter is actually reading on. Could be a false withhold, a disagreement, the thought "No", they don’t really know even though they may say they do. If you've ever done the "Dirty Needle Drill" you will know the meter reads first on the comm cycle (or lack of it). Chopping your comm, failing to acknowledge, asking then answering questions for you instead of letting you speak, staring at the meter, all these things and more produce a dirty needle. David Miscavige trains his interrogators to dirty the needle and then use that as leverage to pry withholds. That is out tech.

Miscavige/Tommy Davis Mind Set

Intensely stupid as this sounds, prior to an important meeting, David Miscavige drills Tommy Davis and cohorts to be the “boss buffalo”. In Miscavige's tiny mind, it's not being right that counts, it's who listens to whom. After any interview, Miscavige asks him, “Who was the alpha male?” Really. So they are psyched up to go after people aggressively, catch them off guard, knock them off balance and maul them. It has nothing to do with Scientology because THEY ARE NOT SCIENTOLOGISTS.

I doubt any of this will ever happen. But if it does, you can easily deflect their efforts. SPs have no real power. All they can do is enturbulate.

Informants

Like any secret police, OSA has spies. In the LA area, Wolfie Frank, Gabrielle Allen and Dan Zimmatore are known informants for OSA. Practice “need to know” and stay undercover.

Other people, especially those who have family members still in the Church are vulnerable to blackmail. Remember those people might be put on the meter and questioned about what they know. Threatened. If they tell, your cover is blown.

Virus Protection

Finally, be careful what you email. I’ve been emailing a friend for years. Two days ago I found out he didn’t have any virus protection on is Mac. He actually didn't realize his Mac didn't come with any virus or hacker protection. I helped him buy some. Two hours later, it caught someone trying to hack into his computer! Copies of all my emails to him are copied on his computer available to any hacker.

I bought expensive security software for this website. Six days later it blocked 64 attacks within one 30 minute period by computers in Poland, the Netherlands, etc.

So you need good hacker and virus protection on your computer, plus on the computers of anyone you send emails to.

Cell phones

Possibly the biggest security holes anywhere are cell phone and PDAs. For most of them (definitely including the iPhone), security is virtually non-existent. It's pretty easy to grab phone numbers, email addresses, etc. However, that sword cuts both ways... As for your own security, there are actions you can take to protect your information. Google the subject.

Okay, that’s the end of my security briefing. Hope it helps.

Whistle-Blowers - Thoughtful
Thursday, 01 October 2009 04:03

I was motivated to write this article after I saw an excellent post by Rebel008 (all his posts are brilliant). Another individual, named “Surprised” posted a comment saying, “any RPF people I ever ran into, in LA, and elsewhere, were always very carefree, I saw them smiling, they looked healthy and not stressed at all, and often sang, or told jokes or stories when working.” Surprised also mentioned they had never seen how RPFers really lived and would like to hear from someone who had been there, done that. So this article is to fill in the blanks a little on the RPF program.

My Sea Org career spanned 20 years. But in 1990, I spent 11 months on the RPF (Rehabilitation Project Force) in Los Angeles during renovations of the Manor Hotel. I received and delivered a lot of auditing and got a great deal of case gain during that time.

There were also things about the RPF program that were NOT fun at all. I guarantee everyone on the RPF thinks continually about the day when he or she will "get out." Just like any prisoner confined anywhere in the world.

RPFers in the public eye are ordered to smile and to "create a positive image" for the RPF. Believe me, the unhappy ones you never see in public.

Something not commonly understood is that the RPF program under L. Ron Hubbard only took a few weeks. Maybe a month. That's it! Whereas Miscavige perverted the program, adding in so many requirements and conditions that an RPF “correction program” now takes five years or more! FIVE years!

You'd think he was dealing with HARDENED CRIMINALS, not veteran Scientology Sea Org members, i.e. volunteers who have dedicated their entire lives to forwarding the goal of a world without insanity, war and crime.

Just ponder that a moment. Someone volunteers to set aside all their personal goals and ambitions, traveling, vacations, cars, money, friendships, dating, movies, raising a family... they put all that aside and still it takes FIVE YEARS of hard labor to “bring them into line with Command Intention” because they were “CI”? (“CI” stands for "counter intention" and also means someone who harbors a counter intention to another person’s success).

Okay, I’m a little slow here. Let me get this straight. Apparently there are people who want Scientology to fail so badly that they are willing to give up EVERYTHING, get a job working for Scientology, and secretly mess things up (hee-hee-hee) until they get caught, after which it takes 5 years or more of hard labor and counseling so they can tell right from wrong.

I don’t know a lot of criminals, but I think most of them fit more into the category of not caring two cents about Scientology. I can’t think of anyone in my wildest imagination who would be willing to give up everything they own in order to appease some personal vendetta against Scientology. Perhaps the whole concept is...

Ludicrous! As a comparative, just imagine a friend joining the Red Cross. Later, you find out a big boss within management had to assign the person to hard labor for five years because they wouldn’t hand out towels to flood victims? Come on, what kind of circumstances could possible warrant that kind of “rehabilitation” system for someone who volunteers to help others?

Oh, I can hear the conversations in the Red Cross rank and file...

“Geeze, too bad about Fred. He stood up when he was supposed to sit down. Hard labor and serves him right. That’ll teach him how to sit down. Pass the Spam please.”

Five years of hard labor. For what?

Throughout one's tenure on the RPF one has no second dynamic of any kind. Love your spouse?  How'd you like to get sent to the RPF tonight instead of going home and having dinner? Not seeing them again for 5 years? Instead of snuggling in bed, you can sleep tonight in a room full of snoring people on an uncomfortable mattress and borrowed sheets. If you have to go to the bathroom, someone has to stand outside. So you don’t escape. That’s called incarceration. You can read more details about the RPF program here.

Off quota? Get down and do 20 push-ups. Still off quota an hour later? Do 20 more. Personally I love staying fit. But I prefer to workout at a nice fitness center.

You aren't allowed to watch TV or listen to music. They own virtually nothing. That's why they sing. Now when I was in, even singing was banned because "it wasn't supposed to be fun." Go figure. Maybe he received an order on that, I don't know. So we sang under our breath and longed even harder for the day we might be free.

By the way, how’s your sex life? How would you like to have none for the next five years? That’s not the program LRH authorized.

You get exactly 10 minutes at the end of the day for “personal time.” 10 minutes to chat, relax, write a letter. It better be a short letter.

So what you really have, if you examine Miscavige's version of the RPF program, is a duality of brilliant LRH tech and utterly contemptible perversions of human rights from David Miscavige.

It’s like a great milk shake made with whole milk, delicious ice cream, chocolate syrup, Oreos, yum -- all the things you love -- oh yeah, plus one quart of insecticide poured in.

Blend. Drink.

Actually, the RPF program was not LRH’s invention, but Ken Urquhart’s -- a decent fellow who was deposed by David Miscavige in about 1981. To this day, Ken’s name appears on countless LRH Policy Letters and issues. He was LRH’s right hand man for more than a decade and a real friend to Ron. David Miscavige spat in his face.

Okay, now we're getting down to the nitty gritty of what the RPF program is... in the same way that a ship rolls over and sinks down to the bottom of the sea.

The commercial value of the RPF program is zero. No one has ever paid to "do the RPF program." It's not a program anyone volunteers for. Privately RPFers are faced with problems most people never have to deal with unless they are incarcerated, as in “will I ever see my wife again?" Or "How can I see my children again?" Or "How do I get out of here?"

When RPFers finally get out they feel relief in the same way that prisoners are happy to be reunited with their loved ones. I was only gone 11 months and I wept like a baby when I was finally set free. Who wouldn’t after such an ordeal? And of course, if it weren’t for Time magzine, I would have been there another five years.

While I was on the RPF, I wrote my wife every day. She was at the Int Base (and still is, I have since remarried and happily so) and I was in LA -- another Miscavige trademark: splitting up spouses. If I could have at least seen or spoken to her regularly, perhaps it would have been more bearable.

Miscavige’s practice of splitting up spouses happens a LOT and today it has another name: human trafficking. It’s against the law because it’s inhuman. But David Miscavige never lets an issue like Federal Law interfere when he really wants to break someone.

Now in my case, my wife was so busy, as is typical of everyone at Int, so pinned down by constant flaps and emergencies (all manufactured by Miscavige) she didn't even have the time to open my letters, much less read them. Most of the flaps at Int concerned the next “event.” Speeches, video production and materials scheduled as “a release” for the event. It’s all part of Miscavige’s propaganda machine. As posted elsewhere, 100% of those events are utterly off policy. In 1977 LRH banned ALL international events because they pull staff off post. Magazines were and still are the vehicle by which Scientology’s news was supposed to be gotten out to the field, NOT a constant barrage of PR events where someone can set themselves up as the "New L. Ron Hubbard."

Anyway, not to diverge too far from the main thread, but staff at Int are so pinned down in a frantic but contrived atmosphere of constant DAILY emergencies and flaps, most of them can’t even string two thoughts together concerning their own life. LRH calls that a dangerous environment. As he explained,

“The fact of the matter is, however, that the environment is made to appear much more dangerous than it actually is.

“A great number of people are professional dangerous environment makers. This includes professions which require a dangerous environment for their existence such as the politician, the policeman, the newspaperman, the undertaker and others. These people sell a dangerous environment. That is their mainstay. They feel that if they did not sell people on the idea the environment is dangerous, they would promptly go broke. So it is in their interest to make the environment far more dangerous than it is.”

Now I know decent journalists like Tom Tobin and Joe Childs of the St Petersburg Times who do not fit that generalization. There decent cops and decent undertakers and even decent psychiatrists here and there.

But it’s been theorized that a corrupt dictator who stole his position by force would be the type that would create a dangerous environment among staff to keep them so pinned down they’d never be able to raise their heads long enough to question his supreme authority. But I wouldn’t know anyone like that.

I do know that individuals who specialize in weaving dangerous webs around others have a special name to describe them: spiders.

Anyway, as I was saying, dear reader, if you feel something inching its way up your leg while reading this, perhaps it’s only David Miscavige.

Then again I think a lot of people may be wondering how to tell the difference between Miscavige and a real spider. Well, it’s not that easy. Miscavige is the shorter, nastier one with beady piercing eyes that exude hate. See, spiders are just hungry all the time, but Miscavige wants to harm you.

Anyway, being at Int is like being pinned down in the thick of war. Bullets and bombs in the form of ethics, ethics, ethics raining down. Condition assignments, group confessions, justice actions convened, demotions, screaming fits, physical confrontations, harsh reprimands, continual sleep deprivation, people getting blown to bits all around you. But the entire war is contrived by David Miscavige to pin those staff down. They have no time for themselves nor for any activity except the group. This is so true that if someone (especially an MAA) were caught reading a letter on post from an RPFer, never mind that it was their spouse, they would be reprimanded.

After post, many staff are so exhausted they simply fall asleep. No time to read.

Against that background, being in the RPF is not fun. Many people today have been in the RFP and done with their program for a year or more. Why are they still in the RPF? Because they have to submit a proposal called a “CSW” (for Completed Staff Work) to get out. The "CSW" is a gigantic formal submission involving numerous banker's boxes containing all their pc folders, all tabbed and referenced, documenting all their handlings, showing evidence of this or that being handled, addressed and corrected. Sometimes it is months before any CSW is looked at (since there are only 9 people on post in RTC) and such submissions often go through cycles involving months or even years of being rejected and resubmitted. Meanwhile you are trapped there on the RFP. And while your folders are up "at Int" waiting for someone in RTC to review, you can't get any auditing because your folders are uplines. So you’re just killing time.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I have a year or two of free time on my hands I’ve always been able to think of better things to do than “nothing.”

But let's say you have some responsibility on the RPF. They have their own executives. And there's a flap. Oops, now you’ll have to get more handling. More auditing. Restudy. Re-do this or that. Conditions. Amends. Then resubmit. Add two more months. Now wait for your CSW to be looked at in Miscavige’s revolving-door madhouse uplines.

Or let’s say you’re outside one afternoon “on deck” pulling weeds. You’re longing to see your spouse and a public Scientologist happens to walk by and notices you look unhappy. They think, “Wow, something must be wrong” so they write a report. Guess who gets 2 or maybe 3 months added onto their jail time?

So yes, the average RPFer is going to show you a smiling happy face.

Today, the RPF program has actually been turned into a colossal mind control operation by David Miscavige. If you are assigned to the RPF, you will stay on it until you realign yourself with "Command Intention" (meaning David Miscavige). Forget LRH. Forget Scientology. Forget the human race. YOU need to align to David Miscavige.

That is what the RPF is about and I'm not exaggerating.

To understand the current RPF program in its full context, read T Paine's brilliant analysis.

As for myself, it took me years to find out why I was assigned to the RPF in 1990. Yes, you heard that right. I was assigned to the RPF without even knowing why. And in that bewildered state, I was escorted from the Int Base down to the RPF one afternoon with 89 cents in my pocket, no towel, no toothbrush, no bar of soap, no toothpaste, just the cheap polyester uniform on my back. Another RPFer lent me a towel, his soap and shampoo which he had bought himself with his $7.50 weekly pay. I picked some black shorts and a black T-shirt out of a bin of RPF hand-me-downs.

I remember how happy I was weeks later, just to have my own towel.

Here was my crime: My wife at the time was an Ethics Officer at Gold. I told her in 1989 “The person responsible for turning the Int Base into a hell hole is David Miscavige and his modus operandi is the misapplication of Ethics.” He was also the one, I had found, who forced the price of Dianetics (the book) so high that in some countries the cost of the book was more than a month's wages. So I worked out a handling. New prices, affordable formats, printing overseas.

But when I proposed my handling, Miscavige personally rejected it, stating that he wasn’t going to allow me to “degrade LRH tech.” Huh? I also told my wife about that. She told someone what I’d said and the axe fell.

Furthermore, if you recall, the Dianetics book campaign was roaring in those days. Jeff Hawkins was writing the ads and that entire campaign was his brain child. You can read his story here. Jeff is not as angry today as he was when he wrote that story a year ago, but can anyone blame him for being angry? After putting in 35 years as a Sea Org member, God himself might weep if he knew what Jeff had been put through at the hands of Adolf Miscavige and that’s no joke.

The Dianetics book campaign was costly, but it introduced a lot of people to Dianetics. And it had the statistics of International Scientology soaring for a solid decade. Those were real statistics, with actual numbers that were no secret. David Miscavige pulled the plug on all funding for Dianetics marketing in 1991. And since then Scientology’s statistics have steadily crashed into the basement and below.

Back then, things were booming. The most interested people sent in a little card that came with each book. We called them MICs -- short for “More Information Cards.”

My job in Marketing was to crack the “Dianetics Route,” meaning it was my job to figure out how to move thousands of book buyers into orgs to take their first steps on what Scientologists call “the Bridge” (meaning that chain of services each designed to deliver a precise ability to the person in the exact sequence they must receive them in order to progress to higher levels of awareness).

Well, somewhere along the line I discovered to my dismay that down in LA at Bridge Publications, the publishers of the book had just boxes and boxes full of these little MIC cards. They came in by the hundreds every week. And there was no line set up to deal with all these interested people.

They simply didn’t have the manpower. Some of the cards were sent to orgs. But again, there was no follow up. Ideas on what to do with the cards varied. Some people looked at them as more of a nuisance than anything. They got stuffed into drawers, stuffed into boxes, stuffed under tables and stacked on shelves.

There was the fruit of the Dianetics campaign just rotting on the vine.

Being in charge of cracking marketing for the Dianetics Route, it didn’t take long to grasp that while most orgs were trying to figure out how to get in public, thousands of people -- in the form of these More Information Cards -- were already knocking on the front door. But no one had answered the door.

I did a little analysis to see if anyone had ever found an effective method to follow up on these people and get them in. And sure enough, I found Jeff Hawkins had written a little personalized letter with a coupon offering a free session of Dianetics counseling. Others had sent that letter to some people years before and 7% of the recipients came into the org.

Now that is quite a good response for direct mail. So I updated the coupon, printed 1,000 letters, signed them myself by hand, licked 1,000 stamps and 70 people walked into orgs across the US with the letter I had mailed to them. Seven percent response.

Bingo. I understood the key to Dianetics Route marketing. Prior to that, the Central Marketing Unit had been spending massive amounts on flyers and broadsheets and trying to get seminars going: stupid blind actions that wasted time and money. Average response rates for all other forms of advertising was between: 0.02% and 0.004%. Meaning send out 10,000 pieces and two people might come in. If you were lucky.

Now, instead of spending $10,000 a week on promo that didn’t work, I could spend $500 and get 35,000 times the response.

I’m no rocket scientist, but that math works.

So I pitched my solution to the Int Finance Director (Jono Epstein, who had a secret passion for marketing) and got the money to buy a computer and three HP Laser printers. I got a room in the basement of Bridge Publications. Then I went down to Los Angeles from the Int Base and found someone for the project. I got him assigned to Bridge Publications. And soon my man Jonathan and I started sending out personalized letters, each one hand signed.

People started to come in and staff were ecstatic. The “Dianetics Route” was cracked and it cost next to nothing.

While this was going on, Jonathan and I started to compile lists of book buyers from orgs. Computers were still in their infancy and every list was in a different format. So by hand we started to refine these lists to make one master list we could mail to.

After a few months we started to run low on money. I requested a very nominal amount, $3,000. My little campaign was moving a mountain, but required little more than blank envelopes, ordinary letter head, and stamps. Meanwhile I had put together a much larger roll out and submitted that marketing campaign for approval. For 8 months it was rejected repeatedly. The stated reason: it wasn’t “big think” enough. Those rejections were from Marketing Exec Int who seemed at a loss about the whole thing.

I made it known that cutting that money was a crime. So then I was put onto TRD short for “Truth Rundown.” The auditing was designed to handle “delusional” people. (People who commit too many crimes can become delusional). Well, my sins were stripped away and low and behold it still seemed like a crime to me. And I said so.

Finally I found out who was actually rejecting my Dianetics Campaign; it wasn’t actually Ronnie, it was David Miscavige!

Let’s review: my area was producing 35,000 times the response rate of any other area in marketing. But that wasn’t “big think” enough.

I ran out of money. Week after week my CSWs were disapproved.

Meanwhile Gabrielle Allen who was in charge of PR was being given hundreds of thousands of dollars by David Miscavige so Dianetics could sponsor the “Goodwill Games.” That got virtually no one into orgs, but they made a big splash for Dianetics. Meanwhile, the More Information Cards kept rolling into Bridge Publications. And gathering dust.

I wasn’t just pissed, I was radioactive.

LRH said there was nothing wrong with upbraiding someone if it was for a good cause.

So I got in Gabrielle’s face, and I got in the face of our Financial Planning Committee Chairman, Sharon Hill. The two of them complained that I had upset them. And for that “reason” I was sent 90 miles away to the RPF in January of 1990.

At that point, everything instantly collapsed. I had no replacement. There was no money for toner, envelopes, or stamps. Jonathan had nothing to do. After several months, he vanished.

Those thousands of people who bought Dianetics and sent in More Information Cards never got the information they requested. But David Miscavige bragged it up at events on how Dianetics was “An Official Sponsor of the Goodwill Games!”

The only reason I didn’t leave the Sea Org then was because I had just gotten married the year before. I was assigned to the RPF on November 12. I remember the date because it was my wedding anniversary.

11 months later, when Time magazine published its infamous article stupidly slamming the religion of Scientology (instead of the criminality within its ranks) Miscavige cancelled all RPF assignments.

So to sum up, what you have in the RPF program is an alloy of LRH tech and Miscavige's psychological warfare by which he dominates and destroys the observational powers and ability of staff members to think for themselves. He's subverted the RPF into a behavior modification program.

Off the top of your head, which makes more sense:

A) Five years to break the pesky “false purposes” and “evil intentions” of a person who has already proven his character by selflessly giving up everything to help mankind?

Or,

B) Five years to break the integrity of a decent person who signed on to help mankind?

When I was in the RPF, we had a motto that we repeated together each evening: “The RPF is what you make it; the RPF is where you make it.” I wish it were true. In fact, the RPF is what abortion king David Miscavige made it into.

The RPF program, originally started as a humane alternative to firing staff by letting them co-audit for a few weeks so they could make it, has been transformed by David Miscavige into a years-long thought-reform gulag.

And how does Miscavige know when someone has really reformed? It’s the number of years. The longer you stay on, the more likely it is that you have finally swallowed the poison that blinds.

“I the LORD thy God am a jealous God.” - God

Image of GodIn the face of absolute power that allows neither dissent nor even a difference of opinion, what results is the God Complex. Who knew?

“Everything I think, everything I say and everything I do is RIGHT!” says the voice inside his head. Plus everyone else says so. Never mind that everyone else can be banished for any infraction real or imagined so of course they're going to agree with anything. Never mind that these double-thinkers are themselves products of Reverse Scientology and so no longer have their own viewpoint from which to view anything.

The problem is, when you are never wrong... when no one ever contradicts anything you say no matter how idiotic or harebrained, it really gives you an inflated opinion of yourself.

And boy, that opinion just inflates and inflates and inflates over the years until, poof, one day you're God.

Weeeeelll, no wonder David Miscavige needed to pay himself a six figure income over these last 20 years while every other Sea Org member gets less than $50 a week. And no wonder Miscavige was recently confirmed by two independent sources to get more sleep by FAR than any other Sea Org Member in the world. Heck, I remember being forced to work 20 and 21 hours a day. I had no idea ole Wile E. Miscavige was sleeping at least 8 hours a day, every day.

Assault someone, and it was their fault. Banish someone, and they deserved it (even if they didn’t). Rewrite Scientology and it’s a Golden Age of Tech! Spend $10 million glorifying yourself in Freedom, and don’t even include a photo of L. Ron Hubbard. And the next thing you know, what with graft, ponzi schemes, corruption, criminality, hobnobbing with Tom Cruise, forced abortions, forced divorces, mass disconnections, blackmail, hobnobbing with Tom Cruise, extortion, mind control, hobnobbing with Tom Cruise, human trafficking, embezzlement, hobnobbing with Tom Cruise, racketeering, assault and battery, well... the LORD thy God really is an jealous little ____ indeed.

Now the complex really starts to kick in as the most fawning line up to worship at the altar, as in these recent headlines in Miscavige’s own 80-page diatribe:

DAVID MISCAVIGE at the healm of Scientology’s explosive growth
David Miscavige, the driving force behind Scientology’s explosive expansion
Mr. Miscavige redefines the term ‘religious leader’

And who’s standing at the head of the choir, singing louder than anyone? David himself, flanked by alter-boy Tommy Davis. Nice robes! Nice shades! Nice black SUV!

Someone recently chirped if it wouldn’t be possible for everyone to “just talk.” Weeeellll, you see it’s like this: When you're dealing with a hardened criminal who chews people up and spits them out every day for breakfast, "just talking" is not the proper handling.

Here IS the handling: whistle-blowers with the guts to expose his crimes.

In Bernie Madoff's case, he didn’t get 150 years in prison because someone tried “just talking” to him. Al Capone didn’t go to Atlanta State Prison because someone tried “just talking” to him. In Miscavige's case, I don't know what he'll get, but the man belongs in prison and those who are currently CONDONING his crimes may one day be looking at jail time themselves if they don't WAKE UP.

As Marty Rathbun pointed out recently in his article entitled 1984, “DM  played right into our hands with some very ill-advised haymakers in response to recent truths being shared. One was in the form of 250 pages of declarations sworn by twenty-five inmates of the Hole.”  Fawning, cultic and creepy, they have taken the God Complex to a new level.

From Marc Yager:

“Statements made about our religious leader are inseparable to the religion itself...”

From Mark Ingber:

“It is with considerable asperity that I look upon the handful of ex-Scientologists who are yapping vile lies to the media about Mr. Miscavige. That is not an attack just on Mr. Miscavige. It is an attack on L. Ron Hubbard and the Scientology religion.”

But leave it to Sue Wilhere to boil the matter down to total A = A = A:

“Mr. Miscavige is Scientology.”

Marty's point, if you want to re-read his blog, is that these kool-aid junkies are actually saying the unbelievable: that to expose the serious criminality of David Miscavige equals an attack on Scientology, since -- in the words of marvelous Sue Wilhere -- "Miscavige is Scientology."

Let me get this straight: Sue Wilhere, Yager, Ingber and others are saying Miscavige and all his crimes, his graft, his 24 years of ponzi schemes, his extortion, countless incidents of assault and battery, blackmail, mind control, human trafficking, embezzlement to the tune of millions of dollars, many lives lost, hundreds of dead fetuses -- one of whom would have been my own son or daughter... and many more lives ruined... ALL THAT equals Scientology?

Does it really?

Photo of David MiscavigeThe dead rotting corpse of Joe Harrison, long-time Scientologist, Sea Org member and carpenter from LA who lost his life in 2003 while working on Building 50 -- David Miscavige’s $70 million private office/monument to greed and egomania -- as a direct result of Miscavige’s trademark policy of sleep deprivation (classified by the CIA as torture)... after quiet, sweet, good-natured, gray-haired Joe Harrison, friend to all, enemy of none, his lonely widow and young daughter bereft in Los Angeles without even an explanation of what really happened to Joe or why he was so sleepy that he forgot to put the kickstand up on his motorcycle, and lost his life only yards away from the golden entrance of Golden Era Productions where golden Security Guard Danny Dunagan watched him drive off early one golden morning to his death... and no one left to tell the tale... (I don’t know what you call it, but in my book, death resulting from torture is murder)... THAT equals Scientology?

I remember Joe's massive aluminum tool chest, padlock on it, full of special tools he'd collected over a lifetime, I remember how it sat in David Miscavige’s own building -- for weeks after Joe’s death. Each week it gathered more dust. No one touched it. An executive over the construction was mildly surprised when I pointed it out and told him that Joe's tools ought to be sent down to his wife and daughter.  "Oh. Those were Joe's tools? That's Joe's stuff, there? Oh, okay. I was wondering who's stuff that was."

Joe had the most amazing little metal tools in that 4' wide locked aluminum chest. Rare and special tools he'd acquired from catalogs and from friends. But people's lives, they don't really compute in the world of David Miscavige. They're not real. The daughter, the widow, a dead man's possessions... all equally overlooked as unimportant. Shadows... drifting by.

In other words, so TOXIC is David Miscavige in his influence over the top leaders of his own religion, that they have made the most staggeringly inane misstatement of all time: that the one man’s horrific crimes and all the skeletons in his personal closet = Scientology.

In their little pea brains "Scientology = Criminality." Is it any wonder why the public at large looks at Scientology suspiciously? ...why people call it a “cult”?  When the very leaders of the religion publicly link Scientology with criminality, what is the world at large to think?

Well, real Scientologists have a different message: Scientology is not about crime, it isn’t about David Miscavige or his crimes.

Scarface Miscavige and his gang bang of criminals equals Scientology? No it does not.

Sue Wilhere can go down in history as uttering the single most flagrantly stupid piece of verbal corruption that’s ever been uttered in the history of Scientology.

Exposing the crimes of David Miscavige is NOT an attack on Scientology.

But certainly, Scientology IS under attack: by those who would sink Scientology down the level of a vicious pervert named David Miscavige -- to cover up his crimes!  They who would throw all of Scientology away to protect one man’s secret crimes.

Photo of B. F. Skinner and his
Miscavige is a "Behaviorist"
not a Scientologist

If you’re a Scientologist, you’ve heard LRH say the purpose of Scientology is to improve conditions in life. “Reverse Scientology” is therefore defined as using Scientology to worsen conditions in life. You won’t believe how easily David Miscavige has been doing just that for the last 28 years...

When you first meet Miscavige, he’s quite social. He may smile, chuckle or even make a joke. He might pass you a compliment. But once you express some affinity toward him, things change quickly. It’s all about control.

Mind Control 101

David Miscavige’s mind control all hinges around the misapplication of Scientology Ethics. Being ethical is all about making right decisions in life. No one’s decisions are 100% right all the time. The point is, even the most decent human beings, people who not only mean well but do well -- all of them -- even they know we all have room to improve.

That is the chink in the armor Miscavige exploits. So all he has to do is enter the room, fix you with a withering look, point a red, walnut-jointed finger at you and declare in his cigarette-smoker’s rasp, “THAT GUY’S OUT ETHICS!”

Now what do you do? He wasn’t even speaking to you or allowing you to respond. He’s telling everyone else in the room that you’re out ethics and talking about you in 3rd person. What’s he referring to? You don’t know. Already, he’s nearly got you.

Why?

Because we all have room to improve. Due to your basic goodness, you are willing to at least hear him out. After all, he’s only the most important person in Scientology. He’s got altitude!

What you should have done: Pointed right back while saying, “That’s a generality, a characteristic of a suppressive person.”

Coup de Grâce

Now for the fatal blow. You are sent to “sort out your ethics.” The Ethics Officer has you write up your misdeeds, the conditions formula for Danger. But you weren’t really in Danger to start with. It’s not actually the correct condition.

Or perhaps it happened this way. You sent up a submission and waited for weeks or months. (You think Miscavige is working hard in the mean while, but actually he’s out attending baseball games in LA, going to movies, car races with Tom Cruise, scuba diving... living it up.) One day he walks into your office taking you by surprise. As forcefully as possible, he proclaims “THAT MOTHER F___ER IS MAKING ME WEAR HIS HAT BECAUSE HE WON’T DO HIS JOB!”

Now in one swift move the top person in Scientology has not just condemned you as being out ethics, he's also assigned you the condition of "Treason" for failing to wear your hat. And there's not a Scientology executive on the planet who would risk condemnation by letting you off that hook. And so you apply the wrong condition.

(For readers who are not familiar, Scientology is divided into three basic areas of technology: ethics (how to make correct choices in life), tech (counseling which enables them to examine and neutralize memories of unpleasant experiences), and admin (discoveries on how to build expanding organizations). That is somewhat simplified, but hopefully you get it. Within the ethics technology, there are a set of conditions which account for any state of being in which you find a living person or group.  Each condition has its corresponding formula, the application of which are quite powerful. As the purpose of Scientology is to improve conditions, the conditions formulas are one way of doing this directly. So they are quite powerful. If you apply the wrong formula to yourself, it is a serious matter. Doing so can and will not only mess with your head, but confuse and degrade you.)

By applying the wrong condition, you denigrate yourself. It is an act of self-abnegation. It violates the Code of Honor. This is NOT something minor; for a person aspiring to ultimate truth, it's a spiritual land mind. It inhibits your ability to fight back. It disconnects you from truth, from your own power of observation, and from your personal integrity because suddenly you are dealing in untruths. Now, only Miscavige's "observations" matter, whereas the entire goal of Scientology is to rehabilitate your own power to observe, decide and act. In life, what is important is what YOU think about things.

What you should have done: Told the Ethics Officer, “Sorry, I didn’t sign up to be a slave. Not now, not ever. I quit.”

Trapped!

Miscavige’s special brand of mind control all begins by forcing people to apply incorrect condition formulas. Once you do, he’s GOT YOU because when you apply the wrong condition, it just as LRH says, it worsens the actual condition you are in.

THAT is Reverse Scientology; i.e., using Scientology to worsen conditions in life.

You’ve got to hand it to Slave Master Miscavige. His op is pretty simple. Just assign wrong conditions to people. How easy is that? And he, above all people, has the “altitude” to do it.

When someone like that declares that your ethics are out, it can be very introverting. That lessens your ability to fight back or even see what he’s doing. Because your attention flies in on yourself.

Now that he’s got you playing ball, the real fun starts.

You’re sitting at your desk working. The door opens behind you and someone walks in. You’re supposed to be working, so don’t look up. Other people work in the office too so you pay no attention. Then you hear a raspy voice. “That c__k s___ing prick refuses to stand up when I enter the room. He’d better start confessing!” You bolt out of your chair and spin around to explain. Too late, too late. That’s back talk and Miscavige shoves that in your face. The 13 or 14 silent people Miscavige has in tow (his entourage) glare at you in disgust. There goes your reputation. You’re on Miscavige’s hit list.

Dehumanization

Now you're back in Ethics, re-doing your lower conditions. At staff meeting the Commanding Officer (CO) of the org briefs the entire organization on what you “did.” He tells everyone (while you sit in the audience), “If you see (name) make sure he’s running. And if not, you kick him in the ass. He’s not your friend.” Then some loser who doesn’t begin to understand Miscavige’s game raises their hand, “Can we hear from (name) to hear what his handling is?”

Now you’re called up to the front to explain your handling after back-talking the top executive in the Church, a man everyone reveres... except apparently you!

Now, the pressure goes on as you stand before a hostile audience, although LRH policy specifically prohibits such because it’s overwhelming.

Quickly you must say something. So you ad lib, “Last Wednesday, COB came into my office when I was on the phone...”

At that point some chronic anger case yells out, “Bullshit! Don’t make COB wrong! That’s Black PR!”

You recoil, try to recover... “Sorry!  I ignored... was disrespectful and back-flashed COB when he came into my office.”

Voice in the audience: “You're f___ing out-ethics!”

You: “So I went to Ethics and I am applying lower conditions...”

In just a few minutes, your life has markedly worsened in so many ways.

Upping the Pressure

Once Miscavige has established your guilt, no matter how spurious, he never lets you forget. “Guilty!” is the mold into which you are cast.

Once found guilty of one infraction, the slightest provocation on your part -- a blank look, being tongue-tied at a meeting (in answer to a loaded question), a bad report from someone else... anything can unleash an avalanche of hostility.

Meetings especially are geared to be as intimidating as possible. Here’s a typical example. Miscavige walks in, glares you down, and says, “Which one?” You say, “Excuse me, Sir?” (no idea what he’s talking about). He says, “You heard me mother f___er!  WHICH ONE?” You draw a total blank. He says to his entourage, “You see that? PIEFACE won’t answer me!” Others chime in, “Answer him!”

Finally now he clarifies his question and you answer.  He doesn’t like your answer and he becomes more angry and throws something at you. He mentions you in a subsequent meeting with others and says you should be wearing a sign that says, “PIEFACE.” So for the next three days, you are made to wear a sign wherever you go.

Directly and through others, Miscavige stacks the punishment. You are humiliated in meetings. You loose your pay and privileges. Normal food is forbidden in lieu of beans and rice. You are thrown in the lake fully dressed. You are banned from the canteen so you can’t buy any snacks.

Progressively, you land in deeper and deeper trouble. As a result, one day you are “restricted to the base.” Now you must sleep under guard in a trailer set off from the rest of the property.

Gradually your autonomy erodes. You become fearful of making a decision on your own. Miscavige’s coercive and dehumanizing control causes you to doubt your own decisions. Your self-esteem and capacity to think independently is hindered while Miscavige continually states his actions are your fault. You gave him no choice. You forced him into it.

Eventually, you are “busted” or removed from post. During the day you do physical labor, perhaps digging ditches in the sun. At the Miscavige’s Int Base, it’s all quite common.

Never-Ending Abuse

But even that is not the end. In fact, the punishment has no end. You’ve heard other horror stories such as Marty Rathbun’s or Marc Headley’s account of “Musical Chairs.” That actually happened.

And perhaps you’ve heard of “the Hole” or “SP Hall” -- where all the top leaders of Scientology were incarcerated for months, coed sleeping on the floor under their desks, all of them declared suppressive but still kept working. Everyone’s post was cancelled, so they simply comprised a mob and worked on whatever Miscavige assigned to them to do.

Confusing

All this is VERY confusing when it’s happening to you. You’re being hit from so many quarters. But after a few years, you start to “toughen up.”

I think some individuals in the Sea Org, the Senior Has-Beens, take a sort of kicked-in-the-head pride that they can bear up to this treatment. They can take it! But the question is... why? Why take it? Why go there? What does it have to do with anything? What does it have to do with expanding Scientology, with being in the Sea Org? Nothing.

Key questions for those people include: Why are you willing to be a victim? I thought you signed up to help people improve their lives?

Somewhere along the line, these Scientologists were warped over from “helping others” to “being a victim.”

Life in the Skinner Box

Man with head in Skinner BoxB.F. Skinner was a psychologist who invented a “box” with an electrified floor to shock rodents into obedience. The box also has the means to reward the rat. Miscavige took it a step further: he skips the reward and just varies the voltage, administering greater or lesser punishments for “Bad rat” / “Good rat.”

Right this moment there is no reason you, my reader, need to receive an electric shock. There’s no reason. It would prove nothing. But the Senior Has-Beens of Scientology, they’ve been in their Skinner boxes for so long, THAT bit of common sense escapes them. They think being abused is part of life or part of Scientology... I don’t know, it’s crazy.

They believe they’re tough because they can “take it.” I don’t think they’re tough. I think they are dead in their heads.

Does this whole scenario sound like lunacy to you? It does to me. And it does to the rest of the world.

That’s how David Miscavige makes slaves who, even when beaten, will swear, “It never occurred.”

1 + 1 = (surprise!) 1

But it gets even sillier. Too long in the Skinner box and apparently you can’t even count any more. As pointed up in this nugget from the St. Petersburg Times:

“Steve Hall and Marc Headley state that they saw Miscavige smash together the heads of Guillaume Lesevre and Marc Yager in 2003 in the Audio/visual facility, causing Lesevre’s ear to bleed. Yager and Lesevre deny it. “This alleged incident never occurred and is invented by Steve Hall,” said Lesevre.

What about Marc Headley? He saw it, too. Is Steve Hall is so all-powerful that when he invents something, Marc Headley saw it, too? Maybe. Or maybe someone needs to pull his egghead out of the Skinner box.

The Battered Person Syndrome

The pathetic fact is, becoming hardened to physical and mental abuse hasn’t a darn thing to do with anything!

It’s simply the “battered person syndrome.” As explained in Wikipedia,

“The condition explains why abused people often do not seek assistance from others, fight their abuser, or leave the abusive situation. Sufferers have low self-esteem, and often believe that the abuse is their fault. Such persons usually refuse to press criminal charges against their abuser, and refuse all offers of help, often becoming aggressive or abusive to others who attempt to offer assistance.”

Sound familiar?

STRENGTH IN THE TRUTH

Steve Hall at Flag release of Scn Handbook
Senior Writer Central
Marketing Unit '94

In 2007, three years after engineering his own escape from enslavement within the Church of Scientology, Steve Hall set out to warn the public at large of a devious cult that controls and manipulates people through human trafficking. The immediate result was this website that has to date been visited by nearly 11 million people. The reason for his action was simple, it was the right thing to do. His personal knowledge of the inner workings of the very top of the organization provided a unique capability to warn others and keep them from harm.

As senior writer at Scientology's international headquarters, Steve Hall answered to and interacted directly with the leader of the Church, David Miscavige, for more than 10 years. The post of Senior Writer was considered one of the more important responsibilities at Scientology's international headquarters since it played a major role in shaping Miscavige’s personal image, along with the voice of an entire religion. The position also represented one of the world’s most difficult marketing challenges. What other subject has a more hotly-debated identity and hostile PR climate that is simultaneously undermined from within by a psychopath who's belligerent public temperament arouses never-ending skepticism, suspicion and doubt? Suffice it to say the task demanded not only world-class marketing skill but a philosophical understanding of Scientology that went beyond the norm. Steve’s consequent attempts to reform Scientology's cult mindset put him on a violent collision course with David Miscavige.

book, "What is Scientology?"
For 25 years Miscavige had leveraged his unlimited power as Scientology czar to freely crush all potential rivals, whether real and imagined. Meanwhile, he intentionally and progressively worsened Scientology’s image to keep wealthy parishioners contributing to Scientology’s “war chest” to protect against perceived threats long after the Church made peace with the IRS and all the troops had gone home.

Refusing to follow detailed orders because they were patently destructive, Steve soon found himself enmeshed in Miscavige's mighty human trafficking operation. Against a campaign of generalities, psychological abuse, sleep deprivation and physical violence, Hall’s antidote was decency. “I kept looking for answers and I found them. Eventually I realized I was trapped. The exit sign simply read 'stop being a victim and take responsibility for yourself.' It was time to start a new life.”

As Hall explains, “Sea Org Members are groomed to be tough. Nothing wrong with that. But Miscavige uses their character against them to hide his crimes and shift attention off himself. He had free reign to abuse anyone and everyone, commit every kind of financial irregularity, engage in blackmail, extortion and human trafficking, covering it all with relentless propaganda of his “good deeds” meanwhile offending the sensibilities and ethical standards of the world at large, which is not so easily duped. Adversarial by design, Miscavige screams obscenities and assaults people and instead of observing the obvious, staff become specialists in justified thought, afraid to rock the boat.

“Miscavige’s legacy has taken Scientology into a dark place. The few remaining staff who continue to defend Miscavige are classic cases of the ‘battered person syndrome’ -- irresponsible slaves who continue to fabricate, condone criminality and blindly follow Miscavige’s orders with no understanding of the consequences."

Decompressing 1 month after leaving Int
April 2004, just 1 month

older then from suppression.

Despite all this, Steve does not feel the problem is unsolvable. “The solution to criminality is transparency. Miscavige claimed a rough, tough atmosphere keeps toxic personalities out. That’s not true. Toxic personalities thrive in chaos! Transparency is ruin for them.

“The strength of our nation lies in the wisdom of our Constitution and our precious Bill of Rights. It also depends upon the freedom of religion since no religion is free unless they’re all free. But freedom of religion does not mean criminality in the name of religion.”

Starting in 1995, Steve began to use his position as Senior Writer to overhaul Scientology marketing and make LRH products and services relevant. Ads that robotically parroted survey buttons were replaced with marketing that was more sophisticated, fresh and humorous. And readers began to notice. For Dianetics he teamed up with Caroline Mustard and wrote, “When life becomes a battleground, your mind is the best weapon.” In 1997, he coined the tag line for Scientology still in use today, “Know Yourself; Know Life.” Scientologists who were there in the 1990s may remember the shift when Scientology's marketing took on on new life.

As Steve recalls, "The ads demonstrated it was possible for Scientology to be useful and valuable in solving life problems, instead of being a cult. Steve wrote Adventure Newsletter and made the R&D Volumes a success. Many more successful slogans followed and by 1998, interest in Scientology was actually growing... until Miscavige pulled the plug on Scientology advertising and gutted the marketing division.

Now remarried
Erica and me in Paris, April
2007 shortly after we met.
Married, May 2009.
Years later Steve finally realized the problem wasn’t lack of marketing. It was criminality emanating from the top of Scientology. "I’ve known a staff member who hadn’t slept for days, cut off his fingers on a table saw because he fell asleep sawing wood, only to be kicked off staff by Miscavige for being ‘accident prone.’  Another worker grew so distracted from lack of sleep and not being allowed to see his family in LA that he forgot to raise the kickstand on his motorcycle, drove off and died moments later. Miscavige never mentioned any of these events. But when his own dog was run over by accident, Miscavige told everyone it was done on purpose. The fellow responsible was banished. Miscavige is not a religious leader, he’s a a violent psychopath.”

In 2004 Steve carried though on his decision to leave staff, and as a result Miscavige had him falsely labeled “suppressive,” disconnecting him from every friend he had known for 20 years. To further crush any resistance, Steve was simultaneously served with divorce papers before even being allowed to speak with his wife of 16 years; he was slapped with a bill for $82,181 -- a violation of labor laws; and he was threatened by a lawyer that if he ever revealed any of his experiences to the outside world he would instantly owe the Church millions. All that, in addition to the prospect of starting life over at 46 with no savings, no job, no insurance, no credit, no 401K, no contacts, no place to live... nothing.

Since Leaving the Sea Org

Using Scientology Steve started life over. Since disconnecting from David Miscavige he has experienced success. Today he’s happily re-married, with new family and a network of friends that span the globe. Based in Dallas, Steve is an expert in the fields of Internet marketing, web design, copywriting and advertising. He is also provider of SEO (search engine optimization) and this very website is a prime example, since at this writing it ranks on page one of Google out of some 8.98 million search results. As Steve puts it, “Anyone who can race 8.98 million people and finish in the top 10 has some skills.”

In addition, he's taking effective action to improve conditions for victims of the Church of Scientology. As he explains, “Sea Org members are indeed tough and I hope I’m a good example of that. But toughness doesn’t mean taking abuse, covering up or condoning criminality. It means doing what’s right.

"These guys who just keep sweeping Miscavige's crimes and hostilities under the rug don't know what truth means. They don't understand what reality is. They're minions.

"Miscavige may try to discredit us. That's the same trick he played at the base so we're used to it. But the difference now is, we can speak out. And I for one am going to keep saying I saw him physically attack people, I saw him waste millions of dollars, and I saw his orders result in injury and death. We're the ones Miscavige couldn’t break.”

An avid entrepreneur since the age of 8, Steve is also co-owner of Sgt. Poopers® a Dallas, Texas company that has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. Sgt. Poopers is a conservation company headquartered in Dallas, Texas providing pet waste removal, disinfection, deodorizing, wildlife control, and more. Climate of Fear - Reign of Terror

"Ever-increasing savage actions created a climate of fear. You could be screamed at, ridiculed, spat on, embarrassed, threatened ferociously or beaten. You could lose Scientology, your friends, family, parents, split off from your spouse, no money, no job, cast out into the world penniless and alone if you ever dream of defying The Cob" Learn More...

Shaking Down Scientologists for Cash

"Through his programs and subverted staff he extorts Scientologists into 'donating' huge sums of money, forcing thousands into debt. It's a protection racket no different from thugs 'shaking down' local business owners for cash. His specialty is crushing people..."  Learn More...

How Church Financials Really Work

"It's a lot more viable to chase down millionaires who will donate $10 million for a hand shake, some applause and a metal pin. Sadism in the SP Hall

"His most infamous sadistic moment was when he told them they were going to play 'musical chairs' and only the last person to get a chair would stay and the rest would vanish without even a chance to say good-bye to friends and family, husbands or wives. The game went on for hours as staff wept bitter tears. This delighted The Cob."  Learn More...

Abuse

Lisa McPherson's Demise

"Miscavige said he knew what was wrong and proceeded to write three paragraphs on what was to be said to this girl. The staff wondered how The Cob was even qualified to supervise auditing and even if he was, why hadn't he studied the folders first? The girl's name was Lisa McPherson and you know the rest."  Learn More...

Night of the Living Dead

"Moments later came a wail of inhuman agony unlike anything I have every heard in my lifetime, before or since. The screams were so incredibly loud.
