I’d like to share a little insight I had on the subject of guilt. Scientology is about empowering people, building them up, restoring their certainty of who they are and the rules of the game, and restoring their freedom.

However, the Sea Org, as it has morphed under the tutelage of David Miscavige and his camp, have effectively committed one of the greatest crimes on people of good will – by making them feel guilty.

Like so many others who joined the Sea Org with a good heart and purpose, I played the game and poured my soul into it. Then came the day when someone said that I was bad, and proceeded with sufficient force, lies and group coercion, to convince me that it was “true”. I then spent years trying to find out why “I was bad”. When I thought I had a handle on it, I poured the coals on again, worked my ass off to help people, and then one day someone came along and said that I was bad, that I was guilty of terrible crimes and “overts” against mankind, and proceeded to drum up a case that effectively drove my anchor points about 3 inches inside my skull, introverted me into thinking that I must be a terrible criminal, withholding horrendous deeds against humanity, and then I spent another block of years soul searching to find out why “I was bad”. Naturally, hundreds of hours of sec checking later, most of it complete crap, as we ran valences since we couldn’t find anything on me to amount to anything, I came up empty handed. Now, in retrospect, I see what happened. The problem was axiomatic. The indication, or label, that one “is bad” IS the lie.  It’s a lie because it is contradictory to everything that is true about life, and even true about Scientology. The minute one agrees that he or she is bad, or guilty of terrible things, the person tends to mock it up, create it as a “fact” in their own universe, and then proceeds to find out why they are bad.  Evil exists because we say it does, so if you agree that you’re evil, then you are.

It perpetuates the lie, and actually results in making the person smaller, weaker, and less able.

This is the process that the Sea Org, as it has evolved in the past several decades under DM’s control, is using to “control” Sea Org members. If one doesn’t perform well, doesn’t toe the line, or steps over boundaries, the punishment is to be labeled as “bad”, “disaffected”, “frying other fish”, “criminal”, or any other label conveniently used to encourage introspection, introversion, and the minute one buys into it, one is controlled.  It doesn’t make better people – it makes malleable people – which is exactly what DM and his camp strives to achieve.

It should be a part of Sea Org hatting, that if one is going to commit themselves to a billion year ride, with total dedication, then one must also know how SPs will use that commitment against one, to control, mind-warp and manipulate one and ultimately turn one’s dedication into “unchallenged obedience”.

The trick is nothing new. The Catholic church has been doing it for centuries; believe in god and Jesus Christ, or go to hell. Do as we say and you are not a sinner, but step out of line and you’re bad, you’re going to the “other place”.

DM’s camp uses the same technique. Down the whole track, we have all been tricked into believing that we were bad, inherently dangerous if we stayed free and big and utterly ourselves. Bit by bit, the walls have been closed in using lies which all amounted to “you’re bad”, “you can’t trust yourself”, “you could hurt others” – and the minute that we bought into those we started mocking up the very condition that was force fed us. We created our own disabilities.

The Sea Org, a la DM style, does precisely the same thing. If you’ve been there, you know what I mean. So, if you want to get your head unwrapped, and if you want to decompress yourself, I’d highly recommend taking a look at all the times when you were convinced that you were bad, evil, out-ethics, a criminal, anti- management, or whatever redundant and pathetic lines were used to introvert you. See it for it was – CONTROL.

Use the Scientology Axioms – spot the truth – and you’ll feel a lot better.

This doesn’t mean that ethics technology is bad, but keep in mind, ethics is there to make you feel better and do better, so if it accomplished the opposite, it wasn’t “ethics” – because ethics is native to a person. Scientology is about freeing minds, not enslaving them, which is why the Sea Org today has become problematic to the entire goal of the Scientology movement.

Well said Sir. And this gets so crazy that many others dramatize this - "You must have LOTTTTTSSSS of overts all over the world, you criminal you!!! "

I agree, too.
But wasn't it Hubbard himself who started that?
I have the strong feeling scn was somewhat two-faced from the very beginning, or at least from the late sixties on when ethics tech was intoduced. Look at Jon Atack's or Bent Corydon's books, which in my opinion are very well researched.

We are all two-faced in this dual universe, dear Tom, but it seems I see only one of your faces right now....

@Tom,

Maybe have another look at that last paragraph of Steve's article ... especially the part that says '...ethics is NATIVE to the person.'

The results of proper Ethics is totally dependent on the intention of the person using it.

You can be squished or be brought to greater heights in awareness & responsibility.

It has NOTHING to do with the data itself.

Actually Dennis, it's not my article, it's Outside the Box. I write as "Thoughtful" ~ Steve

Oh please

Tom Atack's appropriately titled 'A Piece of BS'.

BS being the operative term here.

And Bent is right Corydon's M or M as if Ron was either of the two.

Why don't you actually study the philosophy first before dolling out the character assassination and black PR?

If you had of done this you would have noted that any aspects of ethics that others found odious were reformed in 1968 under the Reform Codes.

After an extensive survey.

Either you are one of those critics who base their "understanding" or lack of it on CIA groupie Miller or Atack and Corydon's less then objective *hit* pieces or an OSA op trying to forward the false datum that Dave and his gang of Religocidal maniacs have anything to do with Hubbard's Scientology.

By the way OTB damn good article.

Good enough to stir up the OSA trolls.

Very much to that point is a SHSBC-lecture that was on Level-2 in the 80s.
I had people listen to it and most of them left the CofS after that. It just conveyed so much understanding. I strongly recommend it as a dissemmination tool, very strongly.
Lecture 135, THE OVERT MOTIVATOR SEQUENCE of April 3rd, 1962
If a "MAA" or "Ethics Officer" or someone else ever explained you about the Overt-Motivator Sequence and did not have you listen to THIS tape, you have false or incomplete data. In more than 30 years I have only met ONE MAA who had understood what it is. Only ONE!!!
In 1962 LRH had found out, what the Overt-Motivator-Sequence really is. And he tells it in THIS lecture. If you don't know this lecture, you must do yourself this favor and listen to it. If you have been through the "Ethics-mills", it will rehabilitate more than you can imagine easily, much more.
A tiny glimpse of quote follows:
"And I wouldn’t say any duress had ever been brought against you to be good.
Now, and one of the oddities of it is that man is basically good. This is the oddity. But that he gets a synthetic bad valence. He gets a synthetic valence. He gets a mocked-up “baddy,”
see? And then he can get into this valence of being bad, and after that you have bad men. If you don’t believe this, process somebody someday on the basis of bad valences. And you’ll find out these are the wildest synthetic valences you ever saw in your life. They describe to him, they are borrowed from him, they’re his concept.
...
Now, what does this all add up to? Well, it adds up to the fact that if man is basically good the only thing wrong with him is his imprisonment in evil. But the evil is false. This is quite interesting. If the evil is false, what would happen if you set him free? He becomes good.
Ah, then what witchcraft has been worked here? We tell a fellow he is evil, and we convince him one way or the other that he shouldn’t attack, because other things are good and he
is evil.
And we just have another civilization mechanism.
And one of the ways of phrasing it is that everything done by you will be revisited upon
you. That’s karma.
“You will pay for everything you have ever done”: that’s karma. And a lot of people get
the overt-motivator sequence mixed up with karma. They are not the same thing."

Two more quotes from the same lecture:
"Now, the basis of the individual is his ability to observe and make decisions and to act. And that is ability: his ability to observe, to make decisions, and to act. He has to be able to inspect and know what he is looking at – what he is looking at. He has to be able to make a sensible summary of what he is looking at, and he has to be able to act in accordance to what he’s inspected."
"The main thing I’m trying to say is, here, that just if you haven’t got the individual, you have nothing! And if you go in the direction of a system, if that system isn’t designed to eventually make individuals, then it’s a system which will fail. And it’s the only kind of a system that you dare embark upon. You embark upon any other system that ends up in slavery or ends up in the total subjugation of individual ability to observe, ability to decide and ability to act – if you impede any one of those three things – you’re going to find yourself with a slave society on your hands."

What was bothersome, when up at Int, was how strident the exaggerated accusations were. It was always the strongest terms. There were no "mistakes", it was "deliberate sabotage", one wasn't in a lower conditon, one was "a criminal". BLAH BLAH.
Staff did this to each other as well as have it done to them. It is tragic.

"The Sea Organization: The current senior management group of the 'church' lead by David Miscavige, is a rogue cult within Scientology. In every sense of the word and by any definition this group is a CULT. Public Scientologists and Staff Members not in the Sea Organization, are sort of 'collateral damage' victims of the activities of this toxic, criminal cult group within Scientology and therefore exhibit cult symptoms even though they would argue vociferously to deny such." People who are clear or OT should be able to observe what is going on around them, but it seems they're not.

If this is true, I would conclude that the tech is maybe not as workable as it claims to be. Otherwise it makes no sense.

+2 # Thoughtful 2011-05-25 15:30
Not everyone knows the tech and not everyone who knows the tech, applies it. Those of us who DO know the tech and who ARE willing to apply it, are doing so and we're getting results. :-)

That's like saying that if I use a sledge hammer to fix a radiator and I break it then the "tech" of Auto Mechanics is "unworkable".

What actually doesn't make sense is the fact that you are posting on this board.

Why don't you go back to ARS or ESMB and play with your creepy "friends"?

Very well written. I stopped being "bad" after reading this site and Marty's site, took a while... Now know who bad really is... De-ptsing is a grand thing indeed! The merchant of Chaos is alive and cancerous but only if you allow it into your life and cannot spot it for what it is. I see so many crippled Scn's making mistakes, ill and behaving very stupidly.

There is some real evil going on in this world, all one has to do is read the news to find horrible sexual atrocities against children & adults, murders, other crimes, mass killings of people in other countries, etc. The fact that DM is concentrateing on destroying good people for what? Disagreeing with him and trying to slam in standard tech/policy? He is twisted beyond belief. There is some serious reactive mind shit going on this world and all he wants to do is destroy some good Scn's that never really did anything that bad. His focus and concentration are way off point and is cleverly disguised.

This is not limited to the Scn Chaos merchant, and extends into other sectors of our society. The other Chaos Merchant that reared it's ugly head recently predicted the end on May 21st and all the crazy actions people took to prepare for it, talk about broken.

DM is truly a 2 1/2 percenter for targeting good people wrongly. The people that sorely need the tech are not getting it and the money is being regged for stupid donations that don't deliver any service back to those families other than some outlandish trophy and "designation" that means fucking nothing. Like the caste system in India people get stuck on themselves "self importance" buttons to whom DM is playing to the hilt, idiots...

Godspeed to you that have woken up and best wishes for more of you to do so.

Yes. It has been pointed out before how much of an outpoint it is that so many top Scientologists have been declared SP. It is an outpoint that just to get to Int one had to have a production record and go through all kinds of security clearances, etc., the elite of the elite. Yet they all turn out to be bad egregious SP criminals according to DM. Stupid and evil.
