Marc Headley (author, "Blown for Good") and John Peeler had leaked stories of the Church Headquarters (INT Base) sadism, beatings, assault and battery on to a message Board called "Operation Clambake" Xenu.net. Electrified ex-members were reading word for word. But it was Marty Rathbun, on camera, testifying with a dozen other members about the escalated abuse in a series called "the Truth Rundown" (Tampa Bay Times) that really blew the lid off the sheer *degree* of the abuse. It was no longer *Rumor*. It was on camera and testified on video to by multiple Sea Org Members "clergy" who were there.
