I first met Bill Straass in 2004 in Clearwater at the Flag Service Org. He worked in the office next door to me and we became good friends. In 1993 I went out to the Freewinds (ship) and while there I made it a point to go and visit Bill down in the engine room. I was surprised that he looked pale and unhealthy. I now know that this was four years into his untreated battle against HIV during which he got zero medical attention. I just assumed he wasn't getting any sleep, since sleep deprivation was a common occurrence under slave master David Miscavige — one of the few examples in the world today to whom the word "cracker" is not a pejorative term. Because he actually is that and takes pride in breaking anyone who might possibly defy him.
